A glass

A glass

The glass with a blue molten thread was discovered during archaeological excavations. Because it was broken, a conservation and restoration specialist from the National Museum of Slovenia restored its shape. For this purpose, he developed a special technique that represents an innovation at a global scale. In conservation and restoration, it is vital to demonstrate the former shape of the item as closely as possible. An item can only be restored if there is sufficient information about its original shape, whereby curators step in and assist by closely examining the item. In determining the composition of objects and their age, curators use natural science analyses that do not damage the objects. The results of these analyses can often be surprising. What is surprising in the mentioned glass is that the time of its origin obtained through scientific analyses differs from the time ascribed to the object with respect to its typical shape by as much as 150 years.
