Šaljiv vrč

IPeople did not drink from this glass, called the puzzle jug, in the usual way, but through the hollow handle. Before the drinker found out how to drink, he had already become fairly wet, which would spring roars of laughter.

The glassmaker who made this jug studied and copied old forms of Murano glass. The first glassmakers came to the territory of present-day Slovenia from Venice and the Czech Republic. In the Middle Ages, Venetian glassmakers who worked on the Island of Murano played a major role. This craft was highly appreciated at the time, which is why the Murano glassmakers and their families enjoyed special benefits. The entire manufacturing procedure of this fragile substance was a carefully guarded secret, which is why craftsmen who escaped were threatened with a death penalty. Despite the threats, the craftsmen took the recipes for manufacturing glass, including the Venetian crystal, and escaped to other workshops, thus spreading the know-how beyond the borders of the Venetian Republic.
