The Hribar house

The Hribar house

The plot on which the house is built was bought from the municipality by Ivan Hribar, a former mayor of Ljubljana. The income from the sale was earmarked for the construction of high school for girls. Hribar entrusted his plan for his new house to a famous Slovenian architect Maks Fabiani.

The Hribar house specialty is that the front wall of the facade is not flat, but wavy. The wavy facade and shape of the eaves (the roof that extends beyond the walls of the building) indicate the beginning of Art Nouveau.

The building is an example of residential architecture, to which Fabiani had a special relationship. He believed that the residential architecture should be designed in such a manner that it could be changed and adapted as well as that it remained eternally relevant.
