Stone memorial plaque

In the Loška Valley, floods used to occur almost every year. The memorial plaque built into the walls of the castle on November 16th 1851 during a great flood testifies to the century-long incursion of water into this region.

Under a gank corridor, inside the castle walls, you can notice a boat known as a canoe or pike. The castle kept three such boats but unfortunately not all of them were preserved. The boats were used to transport people and logs around when the land was flooded. Prior to the use of boats, the castle inhabitants floated around in old troughs – large buckets used to feed pigs – which was a rather risky undertaking.
