The power of fire

The power of fire

The taming of fire brought man numerous discoveries throughout history – the baking of clay, the casting of copper and bronze, the smelting of copper ore, and the forging of iron to mention but a few. Pottery made from baked clay served prehistoric people in the storage of liquids, grain and other foods, as well as the cooking and roasting of food on the fireplace. With the discovery of metalworking, man was able to craft stronger and sturdier tools and weapons.

A precious find of the late Bronze Age treasure was buried on the banks of Lake Bled, under the castle hill. In addition to bronze tools, weapons and jewellery it also contained two ornamental trimmings made of thin gold sheet which are the oldest known gold objects unearthed in the area of modern Slovenia.
